Greetings fellow readers!
It's good to be back to a (mostly) normal schedule. Writing is far easier when you have your old routine. Now, I'm still pretty busy at work and will be for the rest of the month, but this latest week of writing has been far more substantial than the previous one.
It was not all smooth sailing, though. I had approximately two great days of writing, while the other five ranged from poor to mid. Might as well talk about that below.
Name: Reforged.
Last week, I wrote 267 words and a whole page. This week, I wrote 4858 words and two longer chapters (at least, longer for me; I know plenty of authors where their minimum chapter length is 5k words). To be honest, I expected to write more and, for the first time since starting these updates, I'm a little upset I couldn't get more.
Monday and Tuesday were difficult writing days for me. On Monday, I more or less chalked it up to me trying to get back into the swing of things, after a long time of barely writing. On Tuesday, however, I couldn't deny to myself why the writing was going so slowly: what I was writing wasn't working.
I kept trying to force a conversation to happen, which is necessary to the plot, but the key word there was "force." The conversation never flowed naturally. "A" should lead to "B" should lead to "C" and so on. But from the flow of the conversation previously, going to what I wanted, it felt more like going from "A" directly to "G". It didn't make sense and felt completely disjointed. So, later on Tuesday, I got rid of what I'd written in that chapter so far (which included all the writing I did on vacation), restructured this portion of the story in my outline so that it would better fit the flow of the story.
After I did that, Wednesday and Thursday were great. I wrote over 3,200 words in those days alone! The conversations were flowing, the revelations were revealing, and everything was going just right.
Until Friday. Not going to get into details, but life got in the way and suddenly, motivation to write was difficult. I still wrote nearly a thousand words since Friday, but clearly my pace fell off again. And with that personal, life stuff still happening, it'll clearly go into next week and affect my overall output.
That's alright. I'm still writing and enjoying the process. It's just a lot of the stuff happening personally that has been far less fun and engaging (but things which, sadly, are also far more pressing).
That all being said, Reforged is currently sitting at 73,813 words and 53 completed chapters. I'm very close to the three-quarters mark. In terms of word count, I might have already reached it. But Part III is ending very shortly, so I'm looking forward to getting there and then moving into the climactic sequences.
In any case, that's all I got to say for this week. This previous week of CLANN drops were the biggest ones I had. They were the huge moments I had been eager to drop since I started. I hope you all enjoyed them. For this week, we begin to show the fallout of everything that had happened in the story, starting off our falling action. I hope you enjoy. See you there!
