Greetings, fellow readers!
Last reflection, I discussed how annoying formatting can be. That had been about taking the scenes that I had written, splitting into small chunks for easy reading, and then uploading them onto Wyrm House. Remember when I said I couldn't put Mav's POV onto the subsequent scene? Yeah, well, that was because the scene grew so long. Do not worry, if you are not a fan of the long single POV scenes (or do worry, if you are), since this is the last one in this story (if memory serves).
The formatting issue this time came entirely on the writing side. I felt I had a good stopping point a little more than midway through the scene, when Maren and Koda first enter the tunnel, but I found myself in a dilemma.
The way I had formatted CLANN was that every scene was a POV shift. In this instance, if I had shifted to Koda's POV, then that would have messed up the following scene (spoilers, I guess, but it's told through Koda's POV). If I had shifted to Mav's... well, nothing would have happened. He's not doing anything and I wasn't going to artificially make him do something because, ultimately, it would have been pointless.
Another option would have forced a scene split and simply break the tradition I was making and tell it through Maren's POV anyway. However, I hate it when authors have something dramatic happen, force a break in the scene, and then pick up again immediately after with the same POV.
(Note: I am not talking about chapter breaks, but scene breaks within a chapter. I have read several books where a character walks into a room, sees someone or something he wasn't expecting, then there's a space on the page to indicate a new scene is occurring, but no time has past nor are we looking through a different POV, all within the same chapter!)
So, I made this scene longer. Plain and simple. And I'm actually glad it's as long as it is, because now we're actually halfway done with The First Greeting! Not necessarily in content drops, but definitely in word-count. Things move pretty quickly from here on out, so I hope you all enjoy!
